Stop and Smell the Rosemary

Thanksgiving is one week away. And although this is a close runner-up to my favorite holiday (Halloween counts, right?) I cherish this particular gathering for multiple reasons…the food, the people, the smells, the decor – but also the personal touches found through writing.

This being our 6th year of hosting Thanksgiving, I’ve found myself searching for fresh ideas to bring handwriting into our family tradition. One new find I picked up at Paper Source the other day is the Grateful Wreath Kit, a family writing activity that welcomes the theme of gratitude way before the holiday begins. It’s also a piece that can be displayed for years to come.

Each year we ask our guests to write down thoughts of gratitude on a small, festive card which I hold on to for reflection the following year. As I will continue with this tradition, I love the idea of placing the written cards in this beautiful, Giving Thanks book (at least this keeps track of the children’s thanks!). There is room to write your seasonal reflections and the book provides questions to ponder, making this a valued treasure in your family’s history…through written words!

Of course there are many ways to bring a thoughtful touch to the gathering with handwritten place cards. Rip + Tan uses a simple Kraft gift tag with elegant writing for their festive table.

I love the idea of using a rosemary sprig in place cards as Spoon Fork Bacon shared – simple.

Direct your guests to their seats with name cards topped by the leftover leaves of Fall, needing only brown card stock and a white uni-ball pen. So simple yet beautiful.

Get creative (and cheap and easy) with your Thanksgiving placemats by using these lovely, hand lettered templates from Oh My Deer Handmades (this girl has talent!).

And when you can’t be with the people you love, remind them they’re on your mind with one of these cards from Brown Ink Paper Goods (still plenty of time for you to receive by early next week)…

Harvest Set would be a lovely and perfect hostess gift for the season (images taken at Union Market in NYC by the uber popular A Guy Named Patrick).

Over the river and through the woods…with the Turkey on Car we go!

Time to stop and smell the rosemary, the herb which stands for memories. I’ll be back with more ideas to make this holiday even more memorable.

Cherry Red Cheeks

This Summer has become one of exploration. I’ve allowed myself to take some time away from my blog, Pinterest and the digital world by placing energy in new areas. From a painting series, pottery 101, piano lessons (a first since 9th grade), long bike rides around the city, and finding a new overseas Pen Pal, my mind and body are embracing the change in the current pace.

However, my enthusiasm for all the gorgeous, new products which hit our store last week is impossible to contain! Make sure to check out the main Shop page for a glimpse of fresh paper goods as well a handful of new Designers. A few of my new favorites for now…

Here’s to celebrating the season…lemonade stands, evening bike rides, dips in the lake, journal writing on the porch in your PJs, sand in toes, cherry red cheeks and dirty knees. Throw in a postcard from the Grand Canyon and you got yourself a good, old memorable Summer.

The Best of The National Stationery Show Part 2

I’m back with more highlights from my whirlwind weekend in NYC this past May. Let’s first start with a line I can’t wait to debut later this month on Brown Ink…

I’m crazy about the floral images with copper foil text and the succulent gift tags! So much so, Modern Lore is joining Brown Ink Paper Goods boutique this summer.

I’ve been a distant fan of Danni from Oh Hello Friend for years so it was such a treat to meet her in person and check out her thoughtful selection of handmade goods and stationery.

The watercolor and dip-dyed effect is still alive and kicking, my favorite coming from Moglea.

sugar paper brought some serious eye candy to the show this year and I left dreaming of the detailed gold foil notebooks, soon to hit Brown Ink as well. Sweet goods.

If you are still reading at this point, you’re in luck. I’ve continued my 4th of July Sale thru Monday for all those out-of-towners. Use code: Holiday25 for 25% OFF all goods. Now go relax!

Cowgirl

I dream nearly every night and often remember a good chunk of my dreams. Lately I seem to be traveling to warm destinations (imagine that). The other night in the middle of some deep snores, I found myself in New York City strolling thru hundreds of booths filled with ink and paper at the National Stationery Show. Thankfully this image will become a reality this coming May and I cannot wait. This being my second year of attending, I’m still a new cowgirl to the rodeo but ready as ever.

One of the reasons I’ve been dreaming of the Javits Convention Center (vs. the beach) is my love of checking out highlights from this past year’s Gift Shows. I often head to the paper goods blog, Oh So Beautiful Paper, which summarizes each show with thought, diversity and lots of good eye candy. I’ve got my eye on a handful this year…

Sapling Press

Speaking of hot stationery lines swirling around out there, here are a few others which keep pulling me in…

The folks from Philadelphia based, Wayfare Press, bring a love of paper and youth to their designs.

Satsuma Press has also been top of mind these days, such beautiful detail in their designs.

One recent launch which just exploded on social media is the collaboration of Rifle Paper and Garance Dore, the first out of Florida and the second designer based in Paris. They recently premiered their line in Paris and I’m excited to check out the products in person while attending the New York show this Spring.

Lastly, to fellow Twin Citians, are you looking for another good reason to get out from under the covers this weekend? The second monthly Makers Market is taking place over at Mille
