March Madness

As I was recovering from pneumonia, working on new Mother’s Day cards from Brown Ink, and cleaning the yard – only to have it dump inches of snow once again – this past month, exciting happenings were hitting the web this month of March…

One of my favorite boutique stationer designers, Suann Song, is making headway with her recent Kickstarter Appointed, a gorgeous collection of tools to inspire the writer within you. Suann has raised well beyond her initial pledge yet the incentives for becoming a backer are too difficult to pass up, so much so that I recently became a backer (only a few more days before it closes!)  Look for this handsome collection to be a part of the Brown Ink Paper Goods boutique this coming Fall!

Talk about handsome, Autopoint, a 1918 company known for their All-American, fail-proof construction, has just come out with these timeless, mechanical pencils found on Best Made.

Being “old school” has its beauty, literally, in this lovely story used in the Hermes SS15 catalogue seen on Keep it Chic, where keeping a diary has become chic once again. Thanks for keeping it old-school with your hardcover agenda, Preston Davis.

One of the greatest artists of the 20th Century, the work of artist Martin Ramirez has been honored by the U.S.Postal Service by the new Forever Stamps. His work is stellar as he combines his personal take on the landscapes of life in Mexico with American culture.

Back again, the inspiring folks from Egg Press and Hello!Lucky are challenging us all to write one letter, each day in the month of April with their Write_On campaign. Seem daunting? It may help to hear this group is kindly mailing out free Writing Kits to anyone up for the challenge. This year, I am fully onboard. As they mention in the video, both the act of writing and receiving a letter can bring a welcome change in your own life as well as others’. There are more reasons to write than you might imagine. Right on, #write_on — A worthy challenge.

I love a good pencil set. This eco-friendly Pencil Pouch & Recycled Newspaper Pencil Set from Social Goods Co includes 5 pencils which, once sharpened, reveal a beautiful marble-like pattern.

a67a0607-018e-4f56-bc4e-363d0bb70b22Did you hear? Pocket journals are the new, hip alternative to jot down notes these days, be it ideas to share later or to keep a secret. Your sidekick will rock the trend with this three journal set from imogene + willie. Throw in one of their pencil cases while you are at it!

Although the masses love to rely on their Smart Phone calendars to get them through the day, the old-school paper calendars were a hot item at this year’s National Stationery Show – and I think they make the perfect gift for teachers, mothers-in-law, or those who appreciate the written way!

calendar_1024x1024My favorite new calendar of the year, from the talented Emily Johnson at Hartland Brooklyn, is the House Plant Calendar which doubles as a beautiful postcard set.

In my mind, there is no sweeter gift than a monogrammed stationery set. Head to Sugar Paper for a few gorgeous options to gift the writer in your life.

Inspired by an original design from the Stockholm Postal Museum, Santa might be dropping off one of these blue beauties to our kids this year. A perfect destination for all those notes they write back and forth to one another (free Shipping from the MoMA store through today)!

 LettersOfNote-104

For the historical enthusiast, the Letters of Note book is a thoughtful compilation of letters with human emotion and history on each page. Encountering more moments that are stark than soft, readers can swoop in and out of these fascinating correspondences in this lovely collection.

Write On

If my last post, 30 Day Challenge, did not place a little fire in your belly, this post might be the one. Thanks to The Paper Chronicles recent blog post, I learned about the latest writing challenge from the collaborating minds of hello! Lucky and egg press. In celebration of April’s National Letter Writing Month (let me hear a CHEER!) these two groups are kicking off both a give-away and a letter writing campaign called WRITE_ON. Their passion for letter writing to continue to connect friends and loved ones is one I admire!

write_on_2

The group’s mission is for each individual to write a letter for everyday in April. And if you sign up soon, this special WRITE ON Letter Writing Kit which contains 4 letterpress printed cards, 2 from each printer, can be yours! Their hope is “to see an ever-increasing web of connectedness and good feelings” and they invite everyone to share their letter writing adventures online at #WRITE_ON. For more information head to the egg press site.

Initially it may sound overwhelming, however, you can make this a simple activity while you wait for the snow to melt. On your more hectic days, write down and mail a postcard of one thoughtful word or sentence to a friend. Or take 10 minutes to write that follow up from last weeks meeting, or write a letter to Congress on a stance you support. For me, I’m going for it, both 30 days of journaling and writing. In the end, my handwriting will have hopefully improve, moments will be captured, and hearts will be touched.
